1.  Complete the Matter Pre-Assessment.  It can be found in your 6th grade science bin.  This is an INDEPENDENT pre-assessment, so you cannot work with another person on it.

2.  When all people at your table are finished with the pre-assessment, go to the 6th grade science tubs to pick up your supplies and directions for your inquiry.  Please keep the computers FAR AWAY from the inquiry materials.

3.  The people you are sitting with are your science lab group.  With your group, follow all directions for the inquiry, including the group discussion questions.  It is very important that you discuss the answers to the questions, and that every group member gets a chance to share and participate.

4.  Each of you have been assigned a Discovery Education username.  Your user name is the same number that you use to sign on to the computer.  (If this number doesn't work, there are four of you that I did your jps number, plus the first initial of your last name... I did this because your jps number was already taken as a username.  So, if your jps number doesn't work, try your number, plus the first letter of your last name).  Your password is your 8 digit birthday.

Once you get into Discovery Education, there is a video assigned to you to watch.  Watch the video, then answer the questions below as best as you can.

5.  In your science notebook respond to the following questions.  Be ready to share with your peers.

a.  How does a thermometer work?
b.  What does a thermometer measure?

6.  Discuss your answers with your group members.  Make sure everyone has a chance to share.

Looking forward...  Tomorrow you will set up an inquiry with Ms. Z. regarding how heat energy moves and is transferred between objects.
