Week 1, Day 2

Heat Energy Inquiry

Burning Question: Does heat move or transfer from one object to another?

To do Thursday with Miss Zimmerman:

1.  Collect your bins from the science shelf.  The book in the bin has an inquiry that you will complete.  Go to  page 44-48.  There are also data collection sheets and graph paper for each person in the bin.

2.  Follow the directions for the inquiry working as a team.  Remember what we've talked about for working as a group.

To do Friday:

3.  When you are finished with the experiment, look at your data.  What do you notice? Discuss as a group:  How did the temperature of the hot water change?
How did the temperature of the cold water change?
Did the heat move or transfer from one cup to another?

4.  Graph your results on the graph paper in PENCIL!  Discuss as a group the best way to graph both the hot water and cold water temperatures.  What kind of graph is best?  How can you put both sets of data on the graph and make it easy for a reader to understand?

5.  In your groups, discuss the questions on page 48.  Be ready to discuss these with the group.  This is where the learning is going to come in!  We will discuss towards the end of class or on Monday your conclusions.
